Harold (Sonny) Cochrane is the Founder and Managing Partner of Cochrane Sinclair LLP, one of Canada’s largest First Nation-led law firms. A Cree lawyer from Fisher River Cree Nation, he has decades of legal experience representing First Nations and non-Indigenous clients across Canada. He was the first Cree lawyer in Manitoba appointed King’s Counsel and has built his career around reconciliation, Indigenous governance, and legal reform.
He worked closely with the late Honourable Murray Sinclair, whose legacy continues to guide his practice and advocacy. Since founding Cochrane Sinclair LLP in 2017, he has led a team dedicated to serving Indigenous communities through legal frameworks grounded in justice, reconciliation, and self-determination.
Raised and educated in Fisher River Cree Nation, he maintains strong connections with Indigenous communities across Canada. His contributions have been recognized with the Queen Elizabeth II Platinum Jubilee Medal for advancing reconciliation and strengthening Indigenous-led institutions.
Cochrane was elected to the Board of Directors following his nomination by the Assembly of First Nations.
