Mahalia Yakeleya Newmark is a Tulı́t’a Dene First Nation policy analyst, mother, and intergenerational residential school Survivor from the Northwest Territories.
Grounded in the teachings from her Small Granny, Harriet Gladue, she has dedicated her career to advancing reconciliation, equity and community development through both grassroots and government leadership. Mahalia has held policy, advisory, and legislative roles, including the Government of Northwest Territories Executive Council and the Legislative Assembly of the Northwest Territories, with a focus on the social portfolio of housing, health, justice, and education.
In 2020, she co-founded Strong People, Strong Communities, a public art initiative celebrating Indigenous brilliance. Mahalia holds a Bachelor of Arts from the University of Denver and a Master of Public Administration from Arizona State University.
